Project Summary

All Enterprises Inc., was tasked with a complex project to remove a 130,000 lb generator from a tight area with significant access restrictions, elevation issues, overhead power lines, and a challenging timeline. The generator needed to be removed from the landfill and transported over thirty miles to another facility, offloaded and set.

Challenges

1. Elevation and Access Issues: The site presented significant logistical challenges due to 1500 ft elevation changes and difficult access via dirt and gravel roads. Overhead power lines and narrow pathways further complicated the operation.

2. Equipment and Ground Conditions: Heavy equipment faced issues sinking into the gravel and dirt driveways, limiting the range of usable equipment.

3. Permitting and Route Navigation: The 16’6” tall, 130,000 lb load required extensive route surveys to navigate bridges and overhead obstructions along the 101 freeway through Santa Monica and ocean towns. Even CHP permit officials were uncertain about the best routes.

4. Timeline Constraints: The project was under a critical timeline, demanding efficient and precise execution within a week.

Innovative Solutions

All Enterprises Inc. developed a strategic plan to overcome these challenges without resorting to costly crane operations:

1. Trench Plate Utilization: We used 10 truckloads of trench plates, welding them together to create a stable pathway. This innovative use of trench plates provided a firm foundation for equipment movement and loading.

2. Jack and Roll and Forklift Use: Due to access constraints, the generator needed to be jacked up and placed on 100 ton dollies and a combination of come-alongs and the Versalift 60/80 were used to maneuver it out of the building. Once the generator was removed from the building, it needed to be relocated to a place where it could be loaded onto All Enterprises 12-axle trailer, this was done by plating a runway and utilizing two heavy forklifts (Versalift 60/80 and Versalift 100/140) to control both the push and the pull of the 130,000 lb generator up the inclined gravel road to the designated loading area.

3. Controlled Loading: Once the generator was positioned in an area accessible by a tractor/trailer, it was loaded onto a 12-axle setup trailer. The route included driving to the top of the landfill to turn around and descend.

4. Internal Equipment Use: All Enterprises utilized their own equipment, including Versalift 60/80 and Versalift 100/140 lifts and 100T dollies, steel plates, jacks and come-alongs -  ensuring total control and efficiency in the operation.

Project Summary

An aluminum extrusion facility experienced recurring issues with their 3,000T extrusion press housing and needed help replacing it. All Enterprises Inc. was brought in under the client's Holiday shutdown to perform the replacement, which included a new main housing, tie rods and super nuts, as well as a new main housing bushing and gland ring.

Challenges

  1. Recurring Equipment Failure: The press housing kept cracking, necessitating a complete replacement to ensure continued operation.
  2. Tight Timeline: The entire project had to be completed within a two-week Christmas shutdown period, requiring efficient management and coordination.
  3. 24/7 Operations: To meet the tight deadline, double shifts were necessary, requiring meticulous management of both shifts to maintain 100% productivity.
Preparing the equipment
